Dr. Sheffield's toothpaste is certified by the NPA, Natural Product Association. The NPA standard is based on natural ingredients, safety, responsibility and sustainability. This means that over 95% of the ingredients are of natural origin, ensuring a toothpaste that is safe, pure and free from harmful substances.

In April 1850, Dr. Washington W. Sheffield moved to New London, Connecticut, where he established a dentistry and dental surgery practice that made him one of the most renowned practitioners in the United States.

In the mid-1970s, Dr. Sheffield developed a dental cream enriched with peppermint extracts to offer patients a more pleasant flavor.

In 1879, his only son, Dr. Lucius T. Sheffield, went to Paris to study dental surgery. One day, while watching local artists paint, he noticed that the collapsible tubes used to squeeze paint could be used for his father's toothpaste, making it much easier and more sanitary to use. Thanks to this insight, Dr. Sheffield's tooth cream became the first toothpaste to be sold in collapsible tubes.
