Dr. Sheffield's toothpaste is certified by the Natural Products Association (NPA). The NPA standard is based on natural ingredients, safety, responsibility, and sustainability. This means that over 95% of the ingredients are of natural origin, ensuring a toothpaste that is safe, pure, and free from harmful substances.

In April 1850, Dr. Washington W. Sheffield moved to New London, Connecticut, where he established a dentistry and dental surgery practice that made him one of the most renowned professionals in the United States.

In the mid-1870s, Dr. Sheffield developed a tooth cream enriched with mint extracts to provide his patients with a more pleasant flavor.

In 1879, his only son, Dr. Lucius T. Sheffield, traveled to Paris to study dental surgery. One day, while watching local artists paint, he noticed that the collapsible tubes used to squeeze paint could be used for his father's toothpaste, making it much easier and more hygienic to use. Thanks to this insight, the tooth cream invented by Dr. Sheffield became the first toothpaste to be sold in collapsible tubes.
